Internship (MBBS / Training Phase)

• AFMC follows the Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship for MBBS students.

• Duration of internship is one year after completing final MBBS exams.

• Internship postings are rotated through major clinical departments.

• Typical rotations include Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Ob-Gyn, Orthopedics, and Emergency.

• Interns also get postings in allied departments like ENT, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia, Radiology, etc.

• Interns work in armed forces hospitals attached to AFMC.

• Training emphasises clinical decision-making and emergency response.

• Work includes patient examination, procedures, documentation, and rounds.

• Interns maintain clinical logbooks for evaluation.

• Internship completion is mandatory for MBBS degree and medical registration.

• Interns receive stipend/allowance as per defence service rules.

• Interns must pass departmental assessments and evaluations during postings.

• Attendance and performance are monitored by faculty and military medical officers.

Placement / Career After Internship

• AFMC graduates are commissioned as Medical Officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS).

• Placement is guaranteed service employment in the Army, Navy, or Air Force medical branch.

• There is no campus recruitment by corporate firms like in civilian colleges.

• Officers receive defence service pay, allowances, and pension benefits.

• Career progression is through military ranks (Captain, Major, Lt Col, etc.).

Armed Forces Medical College – Scholarship & Eligibility Criteria (15 Points)

• AFMC doesn’t offer conventional civilian scholarships; financial support is built into service training and allowances.

• Tuition fee is fully subsidised for all admitted MBBS cadets as part of the defence training program.

• Students receive free/reduced cost hostel accommodation and subsidised messing (food) facilities.

• Monthly stipends/allowances are provided automatically once enrolled as a cadet (no separate scholarship form).

• Internship and service period stipends are part of the defence pay structure after training.

• To be eligible for this financial support, candidates must qualify for NEET-UG and secure admission through AFMC’s selection (ToELR, interview, and medical exam).

• Indian citizenship is mandatory for admission and for linked financial aid.

• Candidates must be unmarried at the time of admission to be eligible for AFMC enrolment benefits.

• Age criteria apply: minimum 17 years on Dec 31 of admission year, maximum typically 24 years.

• Academic eligibility: minimum 60% aggregate in PCB with English in Class 12 for MBBS entry.

• Medical fitness as per Armed Forces standards must be satisfied to continue enrolment.

• Financial support like book & equipment grants, uniform allowances, washing/haircut allowances are credited during training.
