The IISC Bangalore has a dedicated placement cell, ‘Office of Career Counselling and Placement (OCCaP), which was established to bridge the gap between students and industry. It focuses on facilitating full-time placements, career guidance, internships, and skill development for students across UG, PG, and Doctoral programs. 

The OCCaP is headed by a Chairperson and supported by a team including a Placement Officer, administrative staffl and student coordinators from various departments. The Officer operates under the Dean of Administrative and Finance and ensures alignment with IISC’s research-oriented ethos. 

Student representatives from each department from placement committees to assist from each department form placement committees to assist with coordination, resume-reviews, and other event organisation. 

Key Activities and Services Provided:

• OCCaP manages the campus recruitment drives, starting with recruiter registrations. It schedules Pre-Placement Talks in August-October, followed by campus hiring drives from October-November onward. This includes technical interviews, aptitude tests, group discussions, and HR rounds.
• The placement cell offers one-on-one sessions, workshops on resume-building, interview preparation, LinkedIn optimisation, and career planning. It has a special focus on research-oriented careers, academia, and entrepreneurship. 
• The cell facilitates summer and winter internships, often leading to Pre-Placement Offers. It also collaborates with industry for training in areas like AI/ML, data science soft skills, and technical certification. Some of the popular events include hackathons, guest lectures, and industry visits. 
• The OCCaP portal allows students to register, upload resumes, apply for jobs, and track applications. Recruiters use it for slot bookings and candidate shortlisting. 

IISC Bangalore provides extensive financialsupport through scholarships, stipends, and fellowships to ensure that all the deserving and talented students can focus on academics and research without financial burdens. Almost all research-oriented students receive support, while UG and certain PG programs have merit-based or external options. 

How to Avail Scholarships: Some scholarships are automatically considered, while others are application-based. Renewal of scholarships is based on academic performance, no backlogs and compulsory attendance.
