IIT Kanpur admission is through national-level entrance exam scores. Students must qualify for a personal interview. The Institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. Eligibility criteria:

| B.Tech | Students must have passed 12th, and Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics are the mandatory subjects with 75%. Students must qualify for the JEE Main exam and JEE Advanced. |
| M.Tech | Students must have a bachelor’s degree with 55% or 5.5 CGPA. Students must qualify for the GATE exam. |
| MBA | Students must have a bachelor’s degree with 60% marks and 50% for reserved category students. Students must qualify for the CAT exam. |
| M.Sc. | Students must have a bachelor’s degree with 60%-75% marks and qualify for IIT JAM/GATE/CSIR NET. |
| PhD | Students must have a master’s degree with 75% marks and qualify for GATE/JRF. |
Admission process 2026:-
Check eligibility:
- For UG: students must qualify for JEE Advanced.
- For PG: students must have a relevant bachelor’s degree and qualify for the GATE/JAM/CEED/CAT exam.
- PhD: students must have a master’s degree and qualify for the GATE/NET/JRF exam.
- Apply online and register:
- UG: register and appear for JEE Main, followed by JEE Advanced and JoSAA Counselling.
- PG: Apply online on the IIT Kanpur portal and upload a valid exam score card.
- PhD: Apply online at IIT Kanpur admission with a relevant academic record.
- Apply for qualifying exams and pass the counselling session.
- Shortlisted students will be required to upload the relevant document and will receive an offer letter.
- Students can further complete the admission by paying the academic fee for the chosen programme.
