NIFT Shillong operates under a centralised placement system managed by the NIFT Head Office’s Industry Linkage & Placement unit. This means the overall placement process, company registrations, scheduling, and final offers are coordinated centrally, while the campus-level placement cell supports local coordination and smooth execution.

Key Responsibilities of the Placement Cell:

• It prepares students through grooming sessions, portfolio review, mock interviews, resume building, and industry interactions. 
• It coordinates internships, which often lead to Pre-Placement Offer (PPOs). 
• It facilitates company registrations, schedules interviews, resume-building, and industry interactions.
• It maintains industry linkages, including regional coordinators for Chennai and supports alumni networking and off-campus opportunities. 

NIFT Shillong aims to support students in their finances by offering financial assistance primarily through institute-level schemes managed centrally by the NIFT Head Office. These schemes aim to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder talent in fashion and design education. Determined by the parental income, students can fall into three slabs of monetary assistance. Many students in the past have benefited from this scheme. 

The main scholarships are applicable uniformly across all NIFT campuses, including Shillong. 

SARTHAK Financial Assistance Scheme:

• Targeted at economically weaker sections (EWS).
• Provides tuition fee waivers/concessions based on family incom.

UDAAN-NIFT Scholarship Scheme:

• Means-cum-merit based, often for international exposure or advanced studies.
• Selection via scrutiny committees and requires income verification.
