National Institute of Technology Admission Process

Admissions to NIT Silchar are centralised through national-level entrance exams and counselling processes. The eligibility criteria required to apply is mentioned below:

 

  • B.Tech - Must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (for B.Tech) or Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics + valid NATA score (for B.Arch). Minimum 75% aggregate marks in 10+2 (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top 20 percentile in respective board. Must qualify for JEE Main.
  • M.Tech (2 years) - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Valid GATE score in the relevant discipline.
  • MBA (2 years) - Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Valid CAT score.
  • MCA (2 years) - Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics as a subject at 10+2 or graduation level with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Valid NIMCET score.
  • M.Sc. (2 years) - Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science subject with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Valid IIT JAM score.
  • Ph.D. - Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Valid GATE/UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/JRF or institute entrance test + interview.

 

Selection Criteria: Entrance Exam+Counselling/PI

Accepted Exams: JEE Main (B.Tech/B.Arch), GATE (M.Tech), IIT JAM (M.Sc), CAT/CMAT (MBA)

 

How to Apply:

  • Appear for the relevant national entrance exam.
  • Register on the respective centralised counselling portal.
  • Log in to the portal, fill in your preferred programs and select NIT Silchar as one of the choices.
  • Participate in all counselling rounds, including special rounds if seats remain vacant.
  • Accept the allotted seat and pay the seat acceptance fee online.
  • After seat allotment, go to the NIT Silchar admission portal, log in with the allotted credentials, and complete online registration.
  • Fill in personal and academic details, upload scanned documents, and pay the admission fee online.
  • Download the provisional admission letter.
  • Report to the institute on the scheduled date with original documents for verification, hostel allotment, medical check-up, and final fee payment if required.
