The CSAB will announce (or has already started announcing, as per some reports) the results for CSAB Special Round 2 seat allotment for 2026 on August 12, 2026. This will be the last special counselling round for seat allocation in the NIT+ system post JoSAA counselling. The students can find information regarding their allotment status, institute and branch allotted, and institute-wise Opening and Closing Rank (OR-CR) from the official website csab.nic.in.

Round 2 will allocate the vacant seats in around 114 participating institutes that include 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, IIEST Shibpur, 3 SPAs, and 50+ Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). The seat allotment will be done on the basis of JEE Main 2026 ranks (All India CRL), choice locking by the candidates, category, quota (in case of Home State and Other State), gender pool, and vacant seats left after Round 1 reporting.

Highlights of CSAB Special Round 2 2026

  • Conducting Body: CSAB (IIEST Shibpur)
  • Participating Institutes: 114 (NITs, IIITs, IIEST, SPAs, GFTIs)

Important Post-Allotment Schedule (Round 2)

EventDates

Candidates who receive a new or upgraded seat must complete online reporting, including payment of Institute Admission Fee-II (IAF-II). Approximate IAF-II amounts reported in related coverage: ₹35,000 for General/GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL and ₹16,000 for SC/ST/PwD (verify exact amounts on the portal). Failure to complete online reporting or respond to queries within deadlines can lead to cancellation of the allotted seat.

Willingness options in Round 2 are typically limited (Freeze or Withdraw in many cases). Candidates who floated in Round 1 may see upgrades; those with no upgrade retain their Round 1 seat (subject to completing remaining formalities). Candidates with no allotment in either special round do not get a seat through CSAB Special counselling.

Opening & Closing Ranks (OR-CR)

CSAB releases institute-wise, programme-wise, category-wise, and quota-wise Opening and Closing Ranks after each round. These help students understand the rank range at which seats were allotted in that specific round. Round 2 OR-CR often shows some movement (closing ranks may go higher/numerically larger where vacancies remain) compared to Round 1, depending on reporting, withdrawals, and upgrades.

Go to OR-CR at csab.nic.in through the exclusive “Opening and Closing Ranks” option. Make sure to pick the counselling round, institute type, specific institute, course type, seat type, category and gender. Information from previous years and Round 1 information may be useful to you as rough guidelines, but the actual OR-CR will depend on real-time vacancy status.
