IIT, Guwahati Admissions, Fees, Eligibility, Dates, Cut off & Selection Process

IIT Guwahati admission is strictly based on entrance exam scores for all regular programmes. The Institute does not offer direct admission except for some programs. The Institute follows a centralized seat allocation criterion for UG and PG admissions. The top programs offered in UG programs are B.Tech specialisation, B.Des, in PG programs are M.Tech specialisation, MBA, and PhD degree. 

Find the eligibility criteria for programs and the admission process for 2026 below:-

• B.Tech: Students must have completed their 12th board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are compulsory subjects with 75% aggregate marks. Students must clear the JEE exams to be eligible for admission. 
• B.Des: Students must have completed their 12th board in any stream and qualify for UCEED.
• M.Tech: Students must have completed their bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Science with 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA. Students must qualify for the GATE exam.
• MBA: Students must have completed their bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree with 60% marks and qualify for the CAT exam.
• PhD: Students must have completed their master’s degree with 60%-70% and must qualify for the GATE/NET/CEED/INSPIRE.

Admission process for 2026:-

• Students must check the eligibility criteria for the chosen program on the official website of the Institute.
• Students must appear for the national-level entrance exam to be eligible for admission.
• For B.Tech admission, students must appear for the JEE exams and qualify with valid scores. Need to participate in the JoSAA Counselling.
• For M.Tech admission, students must appear for the GATE exams and qualify with valid scores. 
• For a PhD, students must register on the official admission portal of the IIT Guwahati.
• After exam qualifications, students can register for admission and need to upload the required documents. 
• Students will be informed of the written test and personal interview, and must appear for the same.
• After the final selection, students can complete the admission process by paying the academic fee.
