
IIT Patna Admission 2026: Process, Eligibility & Selection Criteria
IIT Admission Process
- Eligibility for UG Programs requires that you have a 10+2 certificate, and in some courses, you have to do it with mathematics and science, which is compulsory. The required marks are 50% for general categories and 45% for reserved categories.
- Eligibility for PG Programmes is to get admission in a Postgraduate Program. Candidates have to graduate from any recognised university with a minimum of 50% marks needed for the general categories, and relaxations will be applied for reserved candidates. For Doctoral programmes, you need a master’s degree of at least 2 years with a minimum of 55% marks or a 4-year bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 75% marks.
Steps to apply,
- Step 1: Visit the Official Website: Go to www.iitp.ac.in and open the “Admissions” section. Choose your desired course (B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, or Ph.D).
- Step 2: Register for Entrance Exams: Register and appear for the relevant national exam.
JEE Advanced (B.Tech), GATE (M.Tech), JAM (M.Sc), or IIT Patna Ph.D portal. - Step 3: Qualify the Entrance Exam: Secure the minimum qualifying marks or rank.
Only eligible candidates are shortlisted for further rounds. - Step 4: Participate in Counselling / Application Portal: Apply through JoSAA (B.Tech), COAP (M.Tech), or JAM portal (M.Sc).
For Ph.D, apply directly on IIT Patna’s admission portal. - Step 5: Choice Filling & Seat Allotment: Fill in course and institute preferences during counselling.
Seats are allotted based on rank, category, and seat availability. - Step 6: Document Verification & Fee Payment: Upload and verify required academic and identity documents.
Pay the admission fee online to confirm your seat. - Step 7: Reporting to IIT Patna: Report to the institute (online or in person) on the given date.
